When your teenage daughter starts to go out on her first date, what was the feeling as a parent. I felt uneasy, if that is the word that can describe my feelings. Young people nowadays are not as polite as during my times. When I was courting my wife, I had to go to her house and fimilarise myself with her whole family first before I had the courage to ask her out for a date. These days, they just drive up to my gate, honk, and my daughter will rush out. I did not even see his face, for God’s sake! Where is that, "polishing" act? I mean, at least he should have the courtesy to come into my house and say hello right? Guess young people now have lost all that.
I questioned her the next day and she said he was just a casual friend. An old schoolmate. I told her that I don’t like his attitute to just stop by my gate and start honking as though I am invisible or something.
It’s not that I am so old fashioned that I forbid her to go on a date. In fact, at her age, she should be dating someone. It’s only my fatherly instinct that wants to know who she is going out with. I hope she realise that I am not trying to pry into her private life.

i tot that was a good idea, to get to know her friends. ask them to come in for a drink and sit a little while before they rush off but kids nowadays, always in a hurry to go somewhere. i can’t believe u had to go and see yr wife’s entire family before asking her out for a date. must have ‘yok teng’ one. ah pek soh to ah pek: dahhhhling ah, u must come in and polish my family a little first lah, before we go pak toh and meraba-raba. kakakaka runs away
8 mins after the fact. When I was a teenager I did the same thing, sneak out fast fast, coz my mum was, and still is, a LIONESS! although she said the same thing as u did, all my friends then were afraid of her. but then u see, the harder she pushed the spring (i.e. me) the higher i bounce, the more i rebel. lucky i turned out fine. hopefully ah pek not lion hor. but as a mum now, i can relate the feeling.
