When my father in law suffered a stroke, the first day he was warded, all his chldren came visiting. Everyone wants to play the part of the filial child. Those who are better off fights over the hospital bill. It’s like showing to each other that they are more filial than the other.
One month after that, he is lying at home, cannot even bathe and feed himself, totally depending on his wife, children who has been so "filial" suddenly became very "busy" Some said they have business to take care off. Sme said they must fetch their children from school. A thousand and one excuses were given when the hospital bills piled up. There were no more filial children to be seen.
He dragged on for another 6 months or so before he passed away. All of a sudden the filail piety came rushing back to his children. They want the best coffin. They want the best burial ground. They want the best priest for the funeral services. All the relatives came and saw what good children they are. They, the children, fely very good about themselves. They have face. They are good children.
