The most, should I say, popular health problem faced by people, especially men over 45, seems to be hypertention, or high blod pressure. This disease struck a little earlier in my case. I was already on the "pill" when I turned 40. I blame it on heredity. Both my parents were hypertention patients.

Hypertention is normally caused, according to my doctor, due to the narrowing of artileries when age catches up and due to the increase thickness of our blood. This makes bloodflow throughout our body more restricted, thereby increasing the work of our heart to pump the blood. Thus the increase in pressure. That’s in layman’s term, I am no doctor.

Anyway, HP is controllable, so there is no need to fret too much. As long as we take our pills religiously without fail and exercise regularly, we can live like all normal human beings. Of course there are a soem restrictions like less salt intake and all, but that’s no big deal.

High blood pressure if left untreated will bring many complication, the most common being paralysis due to stroke. I have seen people as young as 30 suffer from this just because he thought he was young and the frequent dizziness he was having was because of the hot weather. Scary.

The funny thing about us is sometimes we don’t feel or act our age. Maybe there is a nautral in born self denial cell embeded somewhere in our brain that causes this. maybe it was meant to be that way when the Almighty created us so that we can live our lives as fully as possible, but sometmes this self denial can cause disasters.

We keep thinking we can still do things that we did when we were 18 or 20. At that time, climbing up a flight of stairs is like a stroll in the park. It was still a sroll 10 years later and still strolling maybe another tens years forward, if we keep our selves fit and strong. Then come one fine day, when another 10 years has passed you by, you still think it would be a stroll? Yes, you would. Or that’s what you would think before the 20th step at least. Then you would wonder why are your panting. Why your legs has become so heavy. Still in self denial mode, you never consider the very fact that you are getting old! You keep denying and console yourself that this was because you haven’t been exercising lately. You just can’t bring yourself to admit that age has finally caught up and you can’t do as many things as you could have done before.

This self denial is disastrous! Many over exerted themselves in the process and died of heart failure. Many only came to their senses after suffering from serious accidents. Don’t let this happen. Once you reach middle age, do what middle age men does. Instead of running 6 km, every morning, try brisk walking. It’s easier on your knees and your heart. Instead of climbing stairs up 5 floors, try taking the lift for the last two.

Of course don’t give up exercising totally. That would be foolish. Just slow down. Keep up your daily regime, but tone it down a bit to suit your body and your age.

As we age, our expectations go down. We are not so calculative about things anymore. Maybe it’s because we have seen or experience too much to expect everything to be so wishful. We give up our hope for many things.

When we were younger, we hoped for the sky and we tried top reach for the sky. Somehow or rather, the sky never seemed too high, until one day, when age has really caught up,you look back and finally you realised that the sky is too high indeed. So you give up reaching for the sky. You give up looking up at the unreachable anymore. You are just satisfied to be able to look forward and grasp what is within reach.

The road to happiness I think would be not have too high an expectation in lfe itself. Just leave it to fate. If you are fated to get the sky, you will get the sky. If not, so be it. We can’t have what is not meant to be ours. But somehow, many stubbornly refuse to believe in fate, so they continue struggling with themselves, which in the end only brings unhappiness and misery.

It’s a good feeling when you realised that something you enjoy doing has achieved some results. I have been spending most of my time over the last 2 1/2 months at over my new domain, trying to make it noticeable. I have told all my loyal readers to change or update thier links to point there, and I must say I have sort of achived a little success. I even manage to bring in a few more visitors to my new blog.

I dropped by this blog just to remind myself that I still have an alternative and was pleasantly surprised that it has been granted a Page Rank 4 by Goggles. Think I will seriously consider making this blog more active. Achieveing a PR4 takes about a year of blogging regularly, not to mention, getting incoming links and all. To let this blog just simply die off will be a waste.

There are many things that I can do to this blog. Maybe I will change directions. Instead of a personal blog, I might change it into a niche blog. Talking and discussing some topic that I have a passion for, like gardening and bonsai planting. Maybe I will write about retirement or talk about problems faced by men above 50. Yea.. the options are all open. I’ll have to sleep on it. emoticon
